The Tucson Prick 2025.4: Likely my last TN

Post by c-mitch » Tue Mar 01, 2016 8:19 pm

Tucson's Spike Nolan Rookie League affiliate, the Cayucos Surf, defeated the Ogden Thunder Ducks in the league's Championship Series 3 games to 1, and finally the organization has a winner! How sad that I have to write a TN about this. How sad that this is likely the highlight of my time as GM of the Cactus. You see, the Cactus are headed to a 4th place finish yet again, after leading the Frick Pacific midway through the season, YET AGAIN. This team just chokes down the stretch, over and over. We get a few injuries and cannot overcome them.

This year it was catcher Jeremy Cirolli, my Rule 6 draftee from the EBA who was having a fine year, that went down for roughly 6 weeks and left me with AAA quality replacements behind the plate, plus SS Edward Allen, who wasn't doing much when he was healthy, but lost 4 1/2 months. Sandcastle has a very nice 144 OPS+, which is close to his career number of 149, yet he has only 15 HR and 57 RBI, which is far less than what I had hoped for. And please don't get me started on the disaster that is Martin Felix and his .221 avg/.607 OPS since joining the Cactus. What the phuck?

So we just went 2-8 last sim, and now sit under .500, at 66-70, and we will once again probably not reach .500 at the end of the season. I have never had a .500 season or better since taking over this team a decade ago. I hate this league (no offense), I really hate this team, and I'm probably going to quit. It's flat out not fun. I am at a loss here. I know the pitching is shit. The finances are shit. The prospect system is 13th - so shit. The offense doesn't play to its ratings. I have tried twice now to make moves in acquiring players in an attempt to make the playoffs, not just wait for minor league guys to develop, and both times I have been bitten in the ass and got nothing out of it. I have made multiple World Series in every OOTP league I've been in except this one, where I can't even manage a winning f'ing season. I know I'm not the best OOTP guy out there, not by a long shot, but this is ridiculous. I'm certain someone else will take over this team and have them in the playoffs in no time. Probably never should have left Long Beach. I'm a beaten man.

FWIW, I still think Felix is a good trade for you and he could still pay off next year

I'm not one to try to change someone's mind, but it took me 19 seasons just to make the playoffs. This is a tough league for many reasons. The main reason is that you have to draft almost perfectly if you get a top ten pick. Also, you have to get lucky on a few trades. Trading is tough enough, getting it right is even harder. So I guess I'm saying stick it out and try to be patient. Trust me, I quit once too. I regretted it almost instantly.

I feel for you man. I hope you stick around, but I get frustration. If you do decide to give it a rest, I hope you come back someday.

With all due respect, I have no idea why your team was in fourth place this year, and if you think it's just not working out for you, I get it. I thought your team was at LEAST going to break .500 this season.

I hope you don't leave as you're a good owner, but there's only so much frustration a guy can take. Your farm would have been a lot better if you weren't trying to continuously upgrade, but still.
