GECKOS MAKE A STATEMENT
Tombstone, AZ
June 7, 2063

The Tombstone Geckos made a statement last week on the field, winning six in a row, and eight of their last ten. The front office in Long Beach made a slew of changes in the minor league system following the conclusion of the amateur draft.

Most notably, a large chunk of the Tombstone (A) and Newton Falls (AA) rosters were swapped. The Geckos are now overflowing with a number of young, intriguing prospects in the Long Beach organization. The Provost League player of the week was Gecko 1B José Rinlón, who hit .571 for the week, with 2 HR and 12 RBI.

In a recent postgame press conference, manager Suhail Firdausi said "We're tired of the Toledo Liberty running the show in the CPL. They lost a bunch of guys this year to some team called the Talons, so we saw an opportunity to make a run for it. And it doesn't hurt that we play in the same division as Nashville's Springdale Roosters. We're looking forward to giving them the business as well."

In Long Beach, it was reported that General Manager Stephen Lane had extensive meetings with his minor league coaching staff at the end of April. He did not speak on the record, but reporters from the Long Beach Independent have written about potential motivations for the shakeup of the MiL system. The organization has never focused on winning in the minors, and that appears to be one of the goals here. Firdausi's comments do seem rather flippant, but there does seem to be truth to the matter of the team being tired of the braggadocio in Toledo, and the ongoing nuisance that is the Nashville organization as a whole.

Success in minors and winning championships does not correlate to major league success. Definitely do not try this strategy.

I mean in fairness, I have I think 6 minor league Championships over 10 seasons and the big league club still pretty much stinks with no end in sight so maybe you're right...
