2060.03 - The Long Beach Independent - 2060 Amateur Draft R1&R2

Round 1 / Pick 29
Image
OF Alejandro García
B/T: S/L
Age: 19
Current: 3/4/3/5/5/5
Potential: 5/5/5/5/7/6
IF/OF Range: 2/7
IF/OF Error: 2/6
IF/OF Arm: 4/7
TDP: 1
SPD: 4
STL: 6
BR: 4

With the 29th overall pick in the first round, the Surfers continued recent trends and picked nineteen year old corner outfielder Alejandro García, out of Caribbean Sunbirds College. García is of course a switch hitter and does not appear to have a significant split against lefties or righties. He did not impress on the field in one year of college ball, but scouts speak highly of his work ethic and balanced approach at the plate. Scouts within the Surfer’s organization report that they see a lot of power potential in his 6’5” frame, and believe that the coaching staff could develop him into a prodigious power hitter.

It would not be fair to call García a project, as he is not behind in his development for his age, but he will definitely need multiple seasons in the minor leagues before being ready for the BBA. His defense projects to be above average, and that will help him maintain an every day starter role in one of the outfield corner positions.
OFP: 60 - 1st Division COF
Likely: 45 – 1st Division Utility OF
BBA ETA: 2065

Round 2 / Pick 63

RP Luis Péprez
B/T: L/R
Age: 18
Current: 6/5/4/5/3
Potential: 9/6/6/5/4
Fastball: 7/8
Curveball: 7/10
Velocity: 93-95
Stam: 2
Hold: 8
Def: 5

With the 63rd overall pick, the Surfers second round selection is relief pitcher Luis Péprez, a 19 year old right hander out of South America Gulls College. Péprez struggled with the long ball in 22 innings pitched in college, but scouts anticipate with good coaching, he could grow to be league average in HRA. The Long Beach coaching staff will surely work to improve his velocity, but his curveball has an impressive bite and projects to be a superior strikeout pitch against BBA competition.

Scouts have noted that he’s reserved on the field and in the clubhouse but always carries himself with an air of professionalism. Péprez is well developed for his age, and should need no more than two or three years in the minors before making a contribution with the big league club.

OFP: 55 - 1st Division MRP
Likely: 45 – 2nd Division High Leverage Reliever
BBA ETA: 2064

These two players have nice upside.

Garcia could eventually be a 30-35 homer player at one of the COF spots.

Yeah, I think Garcia should be pretty darn good. Not a star, but I think he's one of those players that is underrated a bit by ootp. he could even play CF in a pinch with the 7 range rating

Garcia should be a starter someday.
