After missing the last part of the 2059 regular season and playoffs with forearm inflammation, Jose Barron didn't get a lot of attention in free agency. Ultimately, the Hustlers were able to bring him back with a $5.5M salary this year (and an option for 2061). This amounted to about half of his previous salary.
All Barron needed to do to earn a rotation spot was make it to Opening Day healthy. Alas, he couldn't do it.
This time, it's a sore shoulder and he's expected to miss all of April.
GM Matt Rectenwald notes that the pitching depth in Las Vegas these days is somewhat suspect. "We're pretty thin, for sure," said Rectenwald. "We'll start out with a four man rotation but from there, it's anyone's guess what we'll do. Maybe it's back to more openers. It worked last year!"
Bret Harrell has been tabbed to start the opener at home versus Calgary by skipper Henry Rectenberg. "He deserves it," said Rectenberg. "He's been the rock of the rotation for the past three years." Harrell will be followed by Arnold Cantrell and Ramon Gonzalez, with Carlos Barrera being held back for the next series against San Antonio. Berrera has been nursing injuries of his own this Spring, the latest being a minor back twinge. He still managed to earn a rotation spot for the first time in his career. "We're pretty excited to see if he can do it," Rectenberg admitted. "We know he can be a stellar reliever, but we think he can do the job in the rotation as well, and keep the ball in the park."
Gamal bin Badr, an All-Star last year, has been moved to the bullpen and the Hustlers may want to keep him there, even with the injury to Barron. "I really like having Gamal and Reese Newsome in the pen," said Rectenberg. "We'll mix and match in Barron's spot, and I'm sure Matt is going to be keeping an eye open outside the organization as well."

bin Badr seems too valuable as a starter to use in the bullpen IMO. It does all depend on who replaces him and who else you have in the bullpen.
