WHIV 2059.3- Checking The Locks: Starting Pitchers

Post by recte44 » Sat May 04, 2024 1:59 pm

Sure Fire Locks (3):
Mahad Einan, RHP- A solid season by Einan last year, and all of the talent in the world.

Jose Barron, RHP- Barron settled in with the Hustlers after a shaky start, and he'll be counted on as an anchor.

Bret Harrell, LHP- Everyone loves Harrell. Three years in a row he's been arguably the Hustlers best starter, and even the BNN is starting to buy into the hype (see the early Preseason Predictions).

Near Locks (1):
Tom Miller, RHP- Vegas seems intent on using Miller as a starting pitcher, or at the least giving him every opportunity to win a rotation spot.

Trying To Break In (4):
Mike Alexander, RHP- What a different a couple of years make. Two years ago the Hustlers were thrilled with the big free agent signing of Alexander, and he had a solid 2057 season in Vegas. Last year was an abject disaster, and the Hustlers are shopping him all over the league asking for peanuts in return.

Antonio Baldez, RHP- Picked up right before Spring Training via trade with Charm City, the Hustlers are the latest franchise to try and harness Baldez's immense ability into actual results. Can they do it? If so, he seems like the natural fifth starter.

Carlos Barrera, RHP- Barrera will also be in the mix to start games, and also be in the relief mix.

Kyle McKinlay, RHP- McKinlay was arguably the most valuable pitcher on the Hustlers' staff last year, working mostly in relief with some starts sprinkled in. He is best in a relief role though will always be a consideration for any free starts.

Breaking In The Back Door (3):
Manuel Garcia, RHP- A veteran depth piece that seems ticketed for Milwaukee (AAA), Garcia has 224 career BBA starts.

Fernando Brown, RHP- "The Liquidator" will start off in Reno (AA) but is being rewarded for his outstanding year with Pahrump (A) where he was 14-3 with a 2.99 ERA last year.

Claudio Rodriguez, LHP- The Hustlers' top pitching prospect has lost significant time due to injuries in each of the last three years. Now 22 years of age, it's now or never for Rodriguez to start showing signs of development. Las Vegas hopes a Spring Training invite will help spark him to do so.

Feels like Barrera’s been around forever and always a potential swing man.
