WHIV 2002 Vol. 11- Hustlers beat Suns in 7, Slizz MVP

The Las Vegas Hustlers won their Doubleday Series over the Marquette Suns, 4 games to 3, in a very tight series.

Jimmy Slizz was named the Most Valuable Player of the series. Slizz, the Hustlers veteran centerfielder, hit .435/.500/.826 with 3 doubles, 2 homers, 7 RBI, 3 walks to 1 strikeout, and 5 runs scored in the series. "He was incredible," Hustlers skipper Elroy Futon said. "It hasn't been the greatest season for Jimmy, but he came through when we needed him most. Let's hope this keeps up in the Cartwright."

Ken Howell (0-2, 9.28) continued his struggles as a Hustler. There was some talk of swapping him and Lorenzo Morales in the upcoming Cartwright Cup match against division rival Seattle. "That decision has yet to be made," said Futon.

Second baseman Brent Gates strained his oblique in the series' fourth game. He'll miss the rest of the postseason, and will be replaced on the roster by Phillipe LaRouche.

So, on the Hustlers go to their rematch with Seattle, who tied them on the season's 162nd game, to force a division tie-breaker (which Las Vegas won). "It'll be one heck of a matchup, that's for sure," manager Futon quipped. "Be there."
