What Happens in Vegas 1995.6- #2 pick SP Davey Acheson

With their second round pick (34th overall) in the 1995 MBBA Ammy Draft, the Las Vegas Hustlers selected starting pitcher Davey Acheson.

Acheson is a 18 year old righthander out of Canada (Gander, Newfoundland). He was a high school two-way star, playing all around the infield and outfield when not pitching. Though he is a talented defensive player, his hitting skills aren't impactful, and it was clear that his future lies on the mound.

Acheson throws four pitches, with a middling fastball in the 89-90 range. He has a plus curveball and changeup, and also has a slider in his arsenal which is a well below average pitch. Acheson will force batters to hit groundballs more often than not, which Vegas management loves, and projects to be an above average talent across the board in stuff, control, and movement.

Acheson's parents have been pushing for him to forego the draft and enroll in college, and thusly scouts across the MBBA have labeled him an "extremely hard" sign. The Hustlers hope that they'll be able to talk him into signing with them. "Heck, if pitching doesn't turn out for him we could always move him back to a position player," Rectenwald said. "And we'll probably get him plenty of action around the diamond in between starts anyways."
