Backhouse Hired in Quebec

Slugger Adam Backhouse has been hired as the new hitting coach for the Quebec Capitals (A) the Calgary Pioneers announced today. Backhouse is taking over from Mario Soriano who moved up to the same position with the Edmonton Jackrabbits (AA).

Fans know Backhouse as a great home run hitter in both the BBA and the GBC hitting a combined 715 of them. Backhouse played 4 seasons in Calgary, from 2050-2053, hitting 173 HR. He also spent time with Hawaii, Mexico City and Charm City along with his early career with Jerusalem in the GBC.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring Adam back to the Calgary organization. Not only was he a great all around hitter, but his international experience will also help with the diverse talent we have in our system," GM Kevin Dickson said.

Backhouse spent the first 8 years of his career in the GBC where he absolutely dominated the game. During a 5 year stretch he averaged 52 HR a season and 136 RBIs. He won the Triple Crown in 2046 and 2049.

In 2050 he jumped to the BBA signing a $77 million contract with Calgary. He averaged 43 HR a season for the Pioneers with 125 RBI. Twice he won the Puckett and he was named to 2 All Star teams before leaving to team to move to Hawaii in 2054.

Backhouse retired after the 2060 season. A career .314 hitter with a .905 OPS, his name comes up in discussions concerning players that split their careers between the 2 leagues. His combined stats would rank him #10 in HR on the BBA list and 14th in RBIs. He also has more than 3000 hits coming in at 3091.
