2062-3 Donadoni Passes Morales

Donadoni Passes Morales

Carlomaria Donadoni moved into 5th place on the BBA all time home run leaders list, passing the great Emilio Morales and Aaron Haney this season. His 741 HR put him 17 behind Ernest McBride for the 4th position. He only his 11 this season so that might be out of his reach.

"I still can't believe my name is on the board with these greats," Donadoni said. "Morales is a legend. His only problem is he didn't hit enough doubles."

Donadoni also ranks 6th on the RBI list and 11th in total bases. His 70 HR in 2056 ranks 2nd in league history and won him the Sawyer Silk that year. Amazingly he has only been voted an All Star twice.

He had an $8 million player option, which he executed. It is doubtful that the team will keep him on with that salary, so expect Calgary to release him and either try to negotiate a lower deal or let him finish his career elsewhere.

Another big career from a 2038 guy. Remember when we thought most of them would bust?

The guy with 741 career HRs isn’t a HoF lock?

I suspect he's in for that gaudy HR number. But ... it sounds strange to say, but he's got a very weird stat line. Sooooo many 2-3 WAR seasons mixed with the occasional big 7 or so year.

He's got my vote. Will be curious to see if he tries to stick around.

Sorry for the newbie comment, but trying to better understand BBA finances. How would one release a player to sign him to a lower deal? Wouldn't his contract then be $8M plus whatever said "lower deal" is, therefore it would be more than what his option is?

Kind of.

If Donadoni is released, his $8M has to be paid for out of Calgary's overall spend but that $8M no longer counts toward the salary cap because he's gone. If he's then resigned to a $4M deal (let's say), then effectively Calgary would be paying Donadoni $12M, but only $4M would count toward salary cap.
