2059-2 The Chairman Returns!
The Chairman Returns!
One of the most popular players in Calgary history is coming back to Calgary or at least to the Calgary organization. The team has announce that Liann-wei Mao has been hired as Havana’s (SA) new hitting coach. With Dan Leonard moving up to St. Paul (AAA) replacing the recently retired Bryan Vogel, the job is being filled by Mao.
One of the best international amateurs to come along, Mao’s rookie season in 2039 is one to remember. The first baseman won named to the All Star team, took home the Puckett Award for 1B and also won the Gillstrom Award as the FL top rookie. He capped off the year by helping Calgary reach the Brewster Championship Series, where they lost to Jacksonville.
Mao had 5 great seasons in Calgary. In 2041 he hit 50 HR with 145 RBIs. He followed it up the next season with 53 HR an 149 RBIs. Playing for several teams after he left Calgary, he would never again have this level of success. He did however win 2 championships at the end of his career, one with Nashville in 2050 and then with New Orleans the following year. He retired after the 2052 season.
“With all the international players coming into the BBA in recent years, I think a guy like Mao can really help some of these kids,” Calgary GM Kevin Dickson said. “That is one of the main reasons we hired him.
