Boland With Standout Season

When Frank Boland signed his 4 year extension in the Spring, the Pioneers were locking him up to be a middle of the rotation starter. The contract called for $18 million over 4 seasons for the 31 year old. The team looked at it as a low risk contract for Boland to finish his career in Calgary. Little did they know that he would have the best season of is career.

Solid but never a star, Boland seems to be getting better with age. He led the team this season with 14 wins and a 2.57 ERA. Both were career highs. Boland was named to the JL All Star team for only the second time in his career. Surprisingly, the last 2 seasons have been his best.

“Frank did his job for us this year,” GM Kevin Dickson said. “He was one of the guys we counted on all year, we just didn’t have enough guys working as hard as Frank.”

The left hander has a career 78-55 record, 4.04 ERA in his 7 seasons in Calgary. He is not as well known to the fans as he tends to avoid the cameras. One of the few Canadians on the team, he was drafted by Boise before coming over to Calgary in a trade while still in the minors.
