Crawdad Chronicles 62.04 - New Orleans trades Angwin

At the trade deadline, New Orleans decided to throw in the towel and trade one of their best players oF Jamie Angwin to Vancouver.

Angwin is 36, and clearly his best days are behind him. He was having a good season, hitting .248 with a 3.6 WAR, 20 HR and 29 SB. But New Orlenas knew they werent making the playoffs. They knew his team option for next year would likely prohibit any compensatory picks, and they new they had to get some value for him.

So at the trade deadline they entertained deals and quickly reached an agreement with Vancouver.

Coming back to New Orleans is a pair of prospects. 19 year old MR Wllbur carter brings some much needed depth in the bullpen, and if he can develop just a bit more may be a solid everyday player. And 3B Gup-Feng Rao could also be a big league roll player - but will certinaly need to delveop significantly from here. A couple players with moderate upside for a pretty good player.

For his part, Angwin struggled in Vancouver down the stretch, hitting only 192 in 25 games. But he has a chance to play in the playoffs - and win that Landis title that has alluded him from years.
