Crawdad Chronicles 62.01 - Donestavez hits 500th HR; Joins 500/500 club

6 July 2062 (AP) - Today Juan Donestavez hit a major milestone. He hit his 500th Home Run, all of them with the New Orleans Crawdads.

The former 2038 pick, who has come back to the Crawdads the last few years on a series of one-year deals (with declining salaries), hit a deep fly ball in the 6th inning off Las Vegas pitcher Owen Geddes, marking the career milestone. He was mobbed at home plate by his friends and family.

After the game, Donestavez was relived. "To be honest, a couple years ago, I wasnt sure how much time I had left, and if i'd ever get here. Im not the same player I was - but im forever greatful to this team for giving me a chance at living out my boyhood dreams".

The 41 year old is surely nearing the end of his career. His batting average has dropped each of the last 5 seasons, hitting just .238 this year. But thats not stopping him much on the basepaths. Over the last 3 years, he is still 60-10 on stolen base attempts, and has a remarkable 668 in his career.

That 500/500 feat puts him in rare territory. 500/500 puts him in a very select group of all-time greats such as Juan Rivera, Alfredo martinez, and New Orleans local Jared Gillstrom.

Donestavez, and his two Sawyer Silks, and 11 ASG appearances, is likely a first (or maybe second given the 2038 class) ballot Hall of Famer.

He made his debut when I took over Hawaii and has been a stalwart in New Orleans ever since. He checks all of my boxes to be in the Hall of Fame.
