Crawdad Chronicles 59.04 - Crawdads Release Burgos (Again)

Post by JimBob2232 » Sun Jul 14, 2024 6:13 am

The Crawdads on-again/off-again love afair with Christian Burgos is apparently off again.

Burgos, originally drafted #2 by Portland in the 2043 draft was traded to New Orleans in a blockbuster sending Pedro Gomez to the Lumberjaxcks. He was a top 10 BBA prospect for years, and finally came up to the big club in 2048. His first 3 seasons were what New Orleans expected. Going 40-22 wirh a mid 3 ERA. Then he tore his rotator cuff, and was never the same.

In 2051 he pitched in just 1.1 inning, allowed 4 runs, and wont his only Landis title.

In 2056 he went 11-10 with a 5.64 ERA, and New Orleans decided it was time to let him go. He signed a one-year deal with Portland and went 13-12 with a 4.37 ERA. Seemingly excited to see him back on the market, New Orleans signed him to a one-year 2.2M deal in 2057, and tried him in the bullpen. On a "prove-it" year he was solid. Splitting his time between the rotation and the pen, he went 7-3 with a 2.84 ERA and made his only all star game. New Orleans rewarded him with a 4 year 17.6M extension - and immediatly (THE SAME DAY) injured his rotator cuff that destoryed his career back in 2051.

Seemingly locked into the bad deal, New Orleans made the best of it for 2058 and 2059, relegated him to a spot started and bullpen arm. But this off-season, GM Jim Roberts decided to let him go.

Still Burgos is only 32 - so he will have a chance to rebuild somehwere else. Perhaps Portland will be interested again...and observers say that it would be be odd to see him back in New Orleans...but at a greatly reduced price.
