Crawdad Chronicles 59.03 - Decision time on Donestavez

38 year old Juan Donestavez;s career is at a crossroads with New Orleans. This isnt unfamilar teritory. Last year GM Jim Roberts picked up his 7.7M option. But this one is for 10.0M, an option neither party really expected would be one that was exectued.

For his part, Donestavez made it hard in 2059 for the 'Dads to say goodbye. The injury prone donestavez was moved to DH and stayed relatively heathy, appearing in only 19 games (most of them in April before he hurt his back playing.outfield in May), and played in 136 games, a level that he has exceeded just twice in the last 10 years. He hit 30HRs and 101 RBI, the 4th most in his career in both categories. He stole 25 bases, giving him 600 all-time, and he tacked on another 152 hits - leaving him only 142 shy of another career milestone, 3,000.

But the crawdads were one game out of the playoffs. The team is getting old. The farm system is depleated. And New Orleans needs a major re-tool, one that Donestavez will undisputedly not be a part of. So do they ride one more time, or get on with the rebuild through Free Agency with the $10M commanded by him?

So what happens in 2060? Its unclear. But the only thing thats clear is that Donestavez still has some fuel in the tank.
