Righty Ken Haworth (7-2, 3.76) threw 8.1 scoreless innings versus the visiting Krill on way to a 10-0 victory backed by 16 Kernel hits and home runs by Bane McCoy and SS Pedro Gongora, whose ninth round tripper tied his 2062 total. Newcomers McCoy, leadoff CF Chandler Larkman, and 2B Qutuz Mahdi contributed two hits and two runs scored apiece. Larkman showed great range at center, tracking down balls deep and also shallow at the local Kum & Go.
Haworth appeared cured of a stitch in his arm that led to an embarrassing performance his last start when he allowed six earned runs in a third of an inning (still DM rallied to win that game 8-7 in 14 innings).
It's War, boys!
BIK starter Paul 'Hit Squad' Worboys struck out six in less than five innings, but he also allowed nine hits—all singles!—against the pesky Des Moines offense, who hit 13 singles in all. Besides the two late-game homers the Kernels also hit a double (Domingo Pinto's third of the season). Carl McLeod led the Poppers with three singles.
"Bane [McCoy] is back," mgr Jenkins said. "We expect a peak year from him. And how about that Mahdi? Yes, it's Des Moines where wins continue to come."
"At the Kum & Go."
Just had to say it.
The Kernels had something to say in the next game too versus the barely clad Krill. (Spoiler: DM 10, BIK 2, Magana three homers)
