KT 63.40—Kernels tee-off on Louisville, Akers, 16-3 at KTY Truck Plant

In the first game of a series sweep at Louisville, the Des Moines Baseball Club smacked the so-called Sluggers 16-3 in a display that sent former Kernel Tommy Akers to the showers in the middle of the 5th and then added eight more runs against Bricknell/Burns in the 6th, making good on the promise to—in the words of a DM fan—"wallop Tommy good" after Akers' illegal entry to the local Kum & Go on 4/20 and subsequent 5-2 win. The Kernels then defeated Louisville 4-1 and 6-1, as DM pitchers said "what Sluggers? Where are they?"

DH Carlos Rodríguez rapped five hits and drove in three runners, and four other Kernels (A. Flinn, K. Okubo, M. Matsunaga, D. Morris) also drove in three runners. Des Moines tallied 19 hits in all. 3B Santiago Quintanilla, in his first week of ML ball, hit his fifth double. Back-up shortstop Alberto Cardova had three hits.

Starter Ken Haworth (3-2) picked up the win. Haworth was relieved by PEPE! (Pepe Domínguez), Arthur 'Old Nick' MacKinley, and Salah Lutfi. The Kernels' sophomore hitter Carl McLeod (7/6/5) was injured at a collision at second on a 8-3-4 play and has been put on the IL.

Feel free to force Akers to become a Kernel again. There must be something your Head Legal Honcho can do.
