The DMO, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, has promoted Santiago Quintanilla, a 23-year-old third baseman, to the major league roster (the Kernels). This draftee from 2061 (fifth round, or the 151st overall pick) will start at third base in place of Felix Parreno, a 35-year-old player who has been placed on waivers, and whose season debut with a .129 batting average in 25 games has not convinced manager Mel Jenkins.

However, this abrupt move involving Parreno, who is just 12 home runs short of reaching the 500 mark in his career comes in a special context; moreover, Parreno already has accumulated 10 stolen bases this season.

Quintanilla, for his part, boasts an impressive .377 batting average in 30 games for the Providence Bees (Double-A level) and also possesses a rocket arm. Quintanilla, nicknamed "El Centelleante" [The Scintillating One], hails from Memphis, TN, home of general manager J. Ramirez.

"I'm sure that had nothing to do with the team's decision," Jibwa Smortningaling said.
