Alonso 'Huckleberry' Flinn (7/6/5), JR's bromantic dreamboy, the rangey Garland (Dallas), TX native, 22-years-old and still going, who is poised—team officials believe—to have a breakout season after last year's efforts were thrown into the outer darkness by a half dozen leg/hamstring injuries and who the DMO hopes have been rectified and rescued by his outstandingly completing training in running mechanics in the Kernel Popper™, won FL player-of-the-week for the first time in his career, something he accomplished three times in the minors, and currently projects a 4.0 WAR this season.
The team also announced that Flinn and Dan Davidson will alternate at stealing starts at 3B from Félix 'Matchbox' Parreno, who is off to a .170 start. "Hate to reduce his playing time," mgr Mel Jenkins commented, "since he's 22 away from 500 dingers. But," he continued, "the Kernels are trying some new things this year, moving some players around, utilizing some of the multi-position abilities of our hitters. And Flinn's one of them; he'll probably get some starts in left as well, as Okubo (.338-4-14) tries centerfield again."
The team has announced adding Kevin Thistle, signed for $500K, to the forty-man, while promoting the Turk (Ziya Türkes) to the ML roster, which fills out to 27 players for the first time this season. The Turk was hitting .385 at Triple-A El Paso and Thistle, .430 (1.178) in 79 at bats. The El Paso Hounds are 13-8 despite a 14th-ranked 5.82 ERA.
Thistle's career Triple-A stats are now .362-27-119, 1.004 OPS, 6.4 WAR in 134 GS over three seasons with El Paso.
