(1) C Pablo Gonzáles (19 AB in the bigs) won the RHML (AAA) Steve Garvey, Jr Batter Award (.323-18-79, 4.1 WAR), and the Platinum Stick Award for Catcher. Gonzáles, who had been slated to be the Kernels No 2 catcher this season, instead played in AAA after the DMO acquired Rule-5 Dan Davidson. They both ended the season on the DM playoff roster. Gonzáles✔ had been illegally courted by PHX/TOL in the winter.
(2) The Kernels operating loss for '62 was just under $17mm. That is, however, better than the $24-25mm it fluttered around for most of the season. Ironically, as the team took a September dive with a ghastly 6-17 record, the season loss decreased due to cumulative team season performance and $4mm playoff revenue. Even 66 TN can only erase ~$13mm of that loss.
(3) Scott Everard, who lost Game 1 and Game 4 in the Geoghegan vs HAW (both 3-2 losses-sigh), nevertheless had an amazing season, appearing in 79 of the 159 Kernel games he was eligible to appear in (he was benched the last three). So he pitched in half of DM's games in 2062, logged a career-high 131.1 IP as a stopper, with a 2.3 WAR, his highest since the 2057 LB playoff team.
(4) Garth Dobbs (4.9 WAR) led the FL in starts with 34 and IP with 216.1. What's more, he led the FL in IP every month of the season. That was after a 6.16 ERA Spring Training. Dobbs, a huge hero in 2062 for the Kernels, had signed a 6-year extension before the season.
(5) Tommy Akers (2.9 WAR) has a player opt-out he needs to decide on. Guy has high greed and low loyalty, so we'll see what he decides. He won Game 3 of the Geoghegan Match against HAW, and has been a fixture on the DM staff the last 11 seasons. He is third on the all-time DM list with 309 GS. Basterd probably won't stick around.
(6) Arnold Cantrell (1.4 WAR), who will turn 36 before the '63 campaign, wants a four-year, $40mm extension. Cannot see that happening, especially if Akers stays.
(7) RF Júlio Pérez (5.0 WAR) has been named Team MVP. He was Mr Consistent. He led the team with 601 at-bats, .304 average, 42 homers, 113 rbis, .913 OPS. And he had a 2.9 ZR in RF with 11 assists.
