The team has moved 1b-of-3b-2b Alonso "Huckleberry Haiku" Flinn to the 60-man Injury List and thus his playing time for this season, including any possible DM post-season play, is over.
"Playoffs be damned, we can't risk further injury to Flinn. It's gnarly, as my dad would say, that the 22-y.o. sophomore spectacular would have sixth injury this season, including ST, meaning he's been injured each month this season: March, April, May, June, July, August. We're not risking a September injury, and we don't want a descent into fragility or worse. Huck will be our first candidate for our revamped development center come November," JR said, in a statement released to social media.
Asked about Flinn missing the upcoming post-season, JR replied that he prioritizes the long-term health of the 7/6/5 rated youngster.
"I closed my eyes and asked myself, if we weren't headed for the playoffs, would I make this move? The answer was obvious."
Flinn, with his .312 average and 2.0 WAR in 82 games (all starts) has been a firecracker in the potent DM offense. Hell, we were looking forward to him hitting his 20th homer [he has 15] so that we'd have eight starters with 20+, but, well, as the French say, tant pis.
