The DMO finished out the series at San Fernando with a forgettable 7-1 loss, with Steven Clayton (6-4) getting shelled and Bear's pitcher Ielemia Faletose (8-1, 3.17) getting the win on 89 pitches. Before that loss, the Kernels had opened the series with wins of 5-0, 11-6, and 4-3. By series end the Kernels were above .500 (34-32) and seemingly ready for series at Vancouver and at Long Beach.
Game 3 was the closest. Des Moines scored all four of its runs in the top of the 4th and held on for the win. The scoring looked like this:

In the 5-0 win, it was Stew Akers with 7 innings pitched, Mauro Mendoza with the remaining two frames (the 36-y.o. southpaw's quietly putting together a good season). With a stamina of 9 and four blue pitches, he could be called to start on. Flinn got four hits. Sam 'The Assasin' Fisher (2-4) got the loss.
The 11-6 win was propelled by three home runs and six runs off starter Morris Chapa (6-4) and three more runs off Richard Bullock (1-2). The homers were two by Carlos Rodríguez (giving him a DM-leading 18) and the other by Kitamura, his third in 25 starts. Salah Lutfi collected his first ML win, in relief of Alonso 'Sandman' Amaya (7-3), who allowed five runs. Keith Tims, José Reyes, and Augusto Annis homered against him.
The Kernels hope to keep the wins flowing in the eight remaining games of this 16-game road streak.
