Lindsay Barber "Voodoo" Vobblehead Doll Night in Des Moines was so much a success that the fans returned to Kid Krauss's Kum&Go Kourtyard with their raggedy-voodoo Barber dolls in hand the next four games versus Sacramento, and the DMO defeated the Mopes three games to one. The first 39,999 fans through the turnstiles Monday were gifted the Lindsay Barber Voodoo doll, limited edition. Except only 24 thou- showed up on this cloudy afternoon, so the promoters had plenty of extras for the next game. Barber did end up losing the game, and so DM got a split in the series This was the original intent of the giveaway.

But the greatest effect of the afternoon seemed to be a hex on the Stars hitters. Seven of them went hitless, and only one reached base on a walk. If this was not the work of the voodoo, it can be granted to Alonso 'Sandman' Amaya (7-2, 4.89) , who tossed the shut out. LF Wan-ling 'Koo-koo-kachoo' Koo (.207-13-37) contributed his 13th home run, and RF Júlio Pérez (.284-11-34) three hits.

"The Vobbleheads have been the talk of town," team owner Walter Wilhelm said. "Look, we might make a dozen more, all in blue."

"Greatest thing to hit Des Moines since Will Lee Weekend," the city's mayor said.
