The first 39,999 fans through the turnstiles Monday were gifted the Lindsay Barber Voodoo doll, limited edition. Except only 24 thou- showed up on this cloudy afternoon, so the promoters had plenty of extras for the next game. Barber did end up losing the game, and so DM got a split in the series This was the original intent of the giveaway.

But the greatest effect of the afternoon seemed to be a hex on the Stars hitters. Seven of them went hitless, and only one reached base on a walk. If this was not the work of the voodoo, it can be granted to Alonso 'Sandman' Amaya (7-2, 4.89) , who tossed the shut out.
