P Eugene Belesis, age 24, was claimed off waivers from the Hawaii Tropics, who drafted the 6'3" fastballer 608th in 2056. Belesis has been assigned to Triple-A El Paso as a middle reliever. He will concentrate on regaining some of the control that has faded the last couple of seasons. The Greek appeared in 47 games last season for Death Valley (AAA) and threw 53.2 innings with an ERA+ of 128. He'll be one of four designated middle relievers on the Hounds' staff.

C Stan Ward was claimed off Yellow Springs, a year and two weeks after the Kernels released the 26-y.o. 13th-round draftee (Omaha). Ward has no ML experience and is expected to be added to the Double-A Bees of Providence. The Bees already have two catchers, Tom Dahlberg (22) and Jaime Sousa. They could all take a back seat to Kernels' 2061 3rd-round draft pick Terry Pitzer (21) if and when he gets promoted from A-ball. Pitzer and Dahlberg saw action in the DMO's spring training.
