Garth Dobbs defeated Valencia, Sacramento, San Fernando, and Yellow Springs, losing a quality start to Vancouver, to win FL Pitcher of the Month for July (5-1 1.49). His season whip is now 1.14 in 160 ip, which is a career high; last season he pitched 150 innings, the year before 130 innings. This is the first year he's been used exclusively as a starter. He is secured (signed) through 2068!—the last two seasons are team options.
He was an All Star in 2057, when he saved 39 games in 76 appearances for the 4th-place Kernels. In 2060 he also appeared in 76 games out of the pen, but racked up 15 losses, which brought him the ire of JRamirez. Dobbs had pitched himself into the Des Moines doghouse in '59 with a 2-10 record. The right-hander from Terryville, NY seems to have hit his stride. Dobbs is 10-3, 2.37 overall, in his last 15 games, all starts. He has an iron constitution and an old-fashioned high work ethic.
