KT 62.40 - Kernels looking good on return to Kum & Go Kourtyard

Post by JRamirez » Thu Mar 13, 2025 2:22 pm

The Piping-Hot Kernels improved their July record to 6-0 with a four-game sweep of da Popes at Sacramento, and this follows 18 wins in June. The team won 12 June games on the road, moving their season "away" record to 30-23 (.566). The team still has 44 games at home, where they are 22-15 (.595). These can all parley into playoff numbers baring either collapse or unexpected surges from competitors.

JRamirez's Kernels last entered the playoffs in 2060, with an 87-75 (.537) record. 91 wins this season is within possibility. "A team I'd really like to beat," JR said, "is TWC. They remain elusively ahead of us. Hopefully we'll give them a run for their peacocks down the stretch." Apparently, for JR, down the stretch means the season's last 72 games.

The scores at Sacramento were 8-7, 7-6 (15), 5-2, 2-1, and included a 9th-inning rally and a 15-inning homerun by FL All-Star second baseman (the one who deserved to be on the team) Miguel Martínez, who lived up to his 'Thrillseeker' nickname in hitting his 19th round tripper.

Previous to the sweep, the Kernels had defeated the Stars at Valencia with consecutive wins of 9-1, 12-0, and 9-0. "You can see we had momentum going into Sacramento," AGM Esteban Costa said. The "Lindsay Barber Voodoo Doll" things was so effective, and I guess so discouraging for the Stars that even their fans brought mockups of the dolls to stick it to their own starters. "

Des Moines now has a 16-game homestand against POR, SFB, VAN, LBC, and it'll be up to the Kernels to kick some Pacific butt. "I'll take 10 wins," Acosta said.

"But 12 would be awesome," JR said. "I mean look how bad those teams are."
