SP Arnold Cantrell got his fourth injury of the regular season. So, guy with 10 stamina may not pitch more than 150 innings. That, his age, his drop in movement, and his refusal to sign an extension, make it likely that the writing is one the wall for Cantrell that he won't be back with the Kernels in 2063. Still, he leads DM pitchers with a 3.36 ERA through Juneteenth. Dobbs and Eveerard are next at 3.39.
Tommy 'Stew' Akers (6-8) has lowered his ERA from 8.45 on May 13th to 4.80. That is partially due to three starts of at least 7 innings in which he blanked his opponents. One of these was a legitimate SHO vs Bikini. He was within two outs of another CG SHO at Long Beach, but was lifted after 103 pitches. Akers is 4-2, 1.49 in his last six starts. The team is still waiting for Steven Clayton (7-4, 5.72) to come fully around.
"If we can the damn pitching and hitting to perform like it should at the same time,"
Assistant GM Esteban Costa said, "reaching the playoffs might be an easier task."
The Kernels threw three team shut outs last week, and a fourth the week before. They had one last month, and are something like 5-3 in shot outs this season.
