Kernel of Truth 59.03 - Last minute signings bolster club

Post by JRamirez » Fri May 10, 2024 10:09 pm

Candy-corn lover GM Jessie Ramirez thought, "huh, maybe I could sign somebody." So he searched and found three guys that made the opening-day roster. These included starter Manuel 'Smalls' Camacho (6/5/7). Des Moines welcomes back the nine-year Kernel hurler after his one-year hiatus in Portland. Smalls once sported an 11/7/8 profile (old style); going into 2059 he has 70 previous starts and 498 relief appearances with the Poppers. Ramirez liked his 1.18 WHIP in 22 starts and a career-high 173 IP for Portland last season. The fans like him a lot: and the club's FI "increased noticeably" after his signing, although I am not sure I noticed. Expect Camacho in the Number 4 position in the rotation.

Also signed, a little for FI but mostly for his abilities at D and in the batter's box was the 37-y.o. (38 on May 1) first baseman Erik 'Shakespeare' Wignes. Ranked 10/10/10/10 in defense at first, he has earned the Zimmer Glove Award at that spot in '54 and '57. We predict another win in '59. He is not just all glove work, as his 7/6/5/6/8 batting references indicate; and he has natural leadership abilities. Ramirez, whose parting words as the interim Cairo GM included "Don't underestimate defense," has taken his own advice. This means 23-yo Bane 'G.O.A.T.' McCoy can concentrate on playing DH, and let's not forget McCoy "outstandingly completed training to improve his plate discipline at the development complex center."

Third, Ramirez signed Felipe Méndez (5/6/8) to be the Number 2 man in the rotation, behind ace Tommy Akers. Mendez has a lifetime 1.35 whip and Ramirez thinks he will lower that this year.

Whoa, never noticed the defense on Wignes. How has he never played 3B??? He’d be gold glover there.
