On the Lam, 62.5 - Free Agent Pitching Look-in

Post by trmmilwwi » Wed Feb 19, 2025 7:00 am

5 weeks into the 2062 season we have some initial findings regarding the free agent pickups that the Outlaws acquired during the ’61-’62 offseason. Here we’ll take a quick peak at how things have bene going and maybe discuss some options proceeding forward for these newly minted Outlaws. Let’s take a look at the pitching first.

37 year old Starting Pitcher Barney Lindsay
It’s no secret that Lindsay is on the dark side of his legendary career, bolstered by being on the Bluebirds from ’45 through ’60. The veteran hurler has been the most consistent starting pitcher in the league for 15 seasons as he has never started less than 31 games in a given season. It is not secret that the Outlaws signed him to be a consistent middle of the rotation starter that would eat innings during the year. Lindsay has started 7 games and has a 3-2 record with a 5.12 ERA. He has 3 quality starts and has pitched well in his last two outings, notching a win in each. The team hopes that the trend continues and that he will slot into a reliable 3rd starter for the remainder of the year.

36 year old Starting Pitcher Greg “Speedy” Shaw
Shaw cut his teeth with the Louisville franchise and started games from ’48 through ’59. The Outlaws targeted him in trade discussions several years but were never able to get a deal done. Well, after a stop in Des Moines the veteran hurler was recruited by the San Antonio club and was given a 1 year ‘prove-it’ deal to see what he can do. He was slated to be a spot starter and long reliever for the club and has had a rough start, starting two games and earning some mopup duty in two others for a 9.00 ERA and 1.80 WHIP. His most recent outing was a disaster as he game up 6 earned runs and didn’t make it out of the 2nd inning. Look for the team to move him into the long relief role to enter games when the team finds themselves needing a vet to throw some long relief innings.

31 year old Relief Pitcher Adrian Fox
The last major free agent pickup on the Outlaw pitching staff is 10th year veteran reliever Fox. He has had stints with Boise, Bikini, Vancouver, Las Vegas and Omaha. The list of place she has been are GMs that are known to be shrewd opportunists that seek certain types of players for their bullpens and Fox fits the bill. He was signed to a 3 year deal which the Outlaws seem to like to use on proven veteran short relievers. His counting stats have been consistently good and the advanced metrics pencil out as well. He just seems to throw around 70 innings of consistently good relief ball every year. He has started out doing exactly the same in San Antonio. Expect him to anchor the relief corp throughout the season and be one of the better options in the 7th and 8th innings.
