On the Lam, 61.4 - Last Hurrah a True Outlaw?

Post by trmmilwwi » Fri Jan 03, 2025 8:42 am

Going into the 2061-2062 offseason there will certainly be several changes to the Outlaw roster as the team continues to transition from veteran leadership to the new guard that is being ushered in. One of the mainstays in San Antonio has been 36 year old Patrick Strolz, who joined the club back in 2052. Strolz just finished up his 10th season in San Antonio but is on the last year of his 6 year, $80.6M contract that he signed in 2056. He has a player option so it is entirely possible that the veteran will be looking to chase a championship with another squad in 2062.

Strolz ranks top 10 (overall list here) in several San Antonio team categories which includes the following;
Career at-bats – 5,233, 6th place
Runs – 766, 6th place
Hits – 1,666, 3rd place
Total bases – 2,568, 5th place
Singles – 1,126, 4th place
Doubles – 340, 3rd place
RBI’s – 668, 9th place

The ex-GBC star (he won batting titles in Manama and Tokyo) has an impressive professional stat line. He has played 16 seasons overall, debuting for Manama as a 20 year old, and expects to play another few seasons. His career totals include 1,867 hits, 864 runs and a career .319 batting average. His lack of top end power has certainly hurt his status as one of the better hitter sin the game as he only has 179 homers in those 16 seasons. His career year was certainly in 2058 when he hit 37 homers and drove in 118 RBI’s while hitting .343. He put up a career bets 6.1 WAR that season and was at the top of his game. He has also been a model of consistency as he has logged more than 150 games in a season in 10 of his 16 professional seasons. His defense has taken a hit the last few seasons and he is now strictly a DH player so that will limit his opportunities going into 2062.

While it is possible he will exercise his player option for $12.6M it is rumored he is seeking a long term contract for around $44M over 4 years. It is unlikely that San Antonio will re-up at that price and it appears Strolz will be wearing a new ballcap for the first time in a decade.

Really close call for that player option. No way he gets 4/$44M in FA.

If Kurt is right, and you let him walk you should get him back. If he's wrong, you have the "advantage" of being able to decide to go that high in the market. Still...it's an angsty call to let the face of the franchise walk.
