A few things we're proud of lately:
We've reached 81 wins, so we're not going to finish below .500 this season. That'll be the fifth season in seven that Birmingham has had a .500 record or better.
We're pretty sure this guy can hit a little. With five games to go, Pat Larkin should not only be the first batting champion in team history, but he'll be the first ever batting champion from the catcher position in either league, as far as we know.
He'll certainly have the highest single season batting average of any catcher in history, absolutely mashing Gustavo Maldonado's previous .357 batting average, and he'll also likely have the highest OBP and probably the highest OPS of any catcher in MBBA history.
We haven't made the playoffs since 1996, but we haven't been idle all that time. Our current #7 position in the BA systems ranking is the highest in team history, a far cry from the team we took over, which was in the bottom three teams in prospects, and our ranking doesn't even include #60 prospect Carl Wright, who could be the best of them all
In the same vein, Larry Crawford has been a very productive callup.
So, while 2001 hasn't been a great season for the team, there's a lot to smile about going into 2002.

Larkin is good. He's still so young too. Going to be a good piece to keep around.

I got lucky, too - I got him past most of his arbitration years with a 3 year, $4.5 million dollar deal...
now, if I could only put a team around him...
