On the Lam, 60.4 - Initial Series up in Austin

Post by trmmilwwi » Tue Aug 13, 2024 7:59 am

The 2060 season is well underway, and the Outlaws sit in the top half of the Frontier division after 20 games. Excitement abounds in San Antonio as the casual fans have turned out in numbers not seen in around 15 years. The team drew a record 4 million fans plus in 2031 and 2032 but attendance has been going down drastically since. There was an increase in ’43 and ’44 when the team went to the playoffs and eventually won their 2nd championship and drew 3.5 million plus fans each season. However, the decline continued as the team siphoned money and sold off the team. Only the die-hards remained throughout the 2050’s as attendance dropped below 2 million in 2059. Something had to happen.

That something was the Shredders, nee Jackrabbits. The Edmonton franchise announced they were moving to Texas and the Outlaws immediately made a push to garner the local fan base. Promos were announced. Well known players like Cinema and Roberto Rivera were brought in to boost excitement about the play on the field. Autograph signings started way before hot stove season and $1 hot dogs, $2 beers, $3 whiskeys and $4 kitchen sink nachos were rolled out. The team slashed ticket prices and sold tickets for less than $10. Everything was focused on getting more butts in the seats. Families of 4 could attend an Outlaw game for less than $30 when you factor in the $1 parking.

The Outlaws GM exclaimed, “We’re focused on the fans. Other teams are paying millions for 16 year old never will be’s. We’re saving our cash to get our fans the new stadium they deserve.”

When pushed to explain the interesting timing of Austin just opening up a new stadium and now San Antonio trying to figure out financing for their own stadium, “Isn’t it a bit late to get this going with the Shredders already having arrived in the state?” local KSAT 12 anchor Acosta asked. “It seems a bit reactionary.”

The Outlaws responded, “Not at all. Some teams move in the middle of the night to get fans. We provide a fun, quality, low cost solution to the working people of San Antonio. We just handed the Shredders their hats in the initial 3 game series up there in Austin. Their team has a shiny new stadium with lights shows, $25 parking and Friday night fireworks. We outscored them 7-4 in the series and took 2 of 3. We’re focused on playing good, sound baseball that the fans appreciate. Lasers and fireworks only works so long.”

Now you have to move the team in a post timestamp of 2am. You just can't let that go!
