2062.5 Mendez returns

Felipe Mendez was drafted in the 2061 rule 5 draft by Omaha from the San Fernando Bears and surprised the BBA world and has made his home in Omaha a good one the past few years. Mendez was not extended by Omaha last offseason and hit the FA market. Omaha and Mendez could not come to an agreement before FA file and Omaha let him test the open market. We already had the workings of a deal but it allowed Mendez to test the market. Within the first few weeks of the offseason Mendez decided to come back. Mendez signed a 2 year deal worth 20 million with the final season being a player option for 2063. I thought about it long and hard and at my age and where I am at in my career its just nice to be able to stay in the same organization for 3 consecutive years.

Mendez did take a step back last season in comparison to his first season in Omaha with almost all metrics being down. We understand Mendez was not the same pitcher last season but its so nice to have someone in the rotation that we can give the ball to every 5th day and get quality innings from him. Despite being down this year he still finished the year at 9-11 with a 5.45 ERA. I am going to take the next 2-3 weeks and rest my body but I am going to get started in the offseason program right after that. We are hungry and ready to work its nice not having to deal with FA business this offseason and we can just focus on next season.

We are anticipating some rotation turnover this offseason so it will be nice to have a veteran like Mendez back who knows the staff and can be the leader of the pitching staff. The fans love Mendez and so does the players on the team. They call me Grandpa said Mendez but that's ok I can take it as an honor that I have been able to play the game this long and still make an impact. Its just exciting to do it all over again with this great group of guys said Mendez.
