2060.1 Omaha stumbles

Post by handaspencer » Wed Aug 07, 2024 10:15 am

Everyone knew 2060 would be a different season but so far nobody could have predicted, how unnormal it would be. The first 3 series of the season has resulted in sweeps in each series. Omaha has been on the losing side 2 of those series while also being on the right side of their own sweep. Omaha started off the opening series but getting swept by Yellow Springs 3-0. They returned home and took it to Madison by sweeping them 3-0 only to return back to the road and get swept by Twin Cities 3-0. We have a lot of new players on this squad and we figured there would be a learning curve GM Spencer said. I am encouraged we played well at home but we certainty need to figure out how to win on the road.

The 2060 roster is almost a complete overhaul this season. Gone from last years club is Sloth Fratelli who was claimed on waivers by Rocky Mountain. The rotation is also without Peter Dean who went to VAlencia as a FA. Robert Wilson was also claimed by Rocky Mountain and is not part of the rotation this season. We lost quite a bit of talent this offseason but we needed to free up our finances some and bring in guys to compete for jobs and create an environment of competition. We are excited about the guys we brought in during the offseason.

We targeted veteran leadership this offseason and was able to bring in Eric Wagner who came from Edmonton during the offseason. He was a good fit for what we was looking for and we are glad we was able to get him. We needed to upgrade our SS position and we brought in Stewart Turton from Las Vegas for this season. He is a very popular player with high intelligence, and we knew the fans would like him. In addition a few arms was brought in to compete in the bulllpen.

Although there is many new faces we still have Luis Mendoza andTakashi Nakamura who play vital roles on this squad. We need to protect April and play good baseball. We know with the amount of changes we have seen in the offseason we have a made a recipe that can lead to a slow start. Starting slow can create doubt and can become cancerous on a squad. If we can establish some consistency i believe we can surprise some folks. But we are asking a lot out of these guys for sure.

We have been open about our current situation that we are rebuilding but we believe rebuilding is more than aquiring talent is establishing a good clubhouse and providing opportunities for guys that might not get those opportunities elsewhere. We are hoping for a breakout candidate or two from this squad that given the opportunity was able to re-invent their career. This should be an exciting season in Omaha with continued movement expected. Many times adversity brings out the best in you and benefits usually come from hard times. We are excited to see what benefits we can gain this season.

Man, I don't even remember having Wagner last year. He made our morale go into the dumpster.

How did he do that? I see only high leadership.

Yeah, it's been a weird start for several teams, not having split a series so far. We both took MAD to the woodshed this week.

He had a major, and I am not sure what happened but it was major, clash with the manager and other leaders on the team. Must have crapped in his hat or something.
