With Omaha trading away Jorge Hernandez, it accidentally opened up cap space for the team to call up Emilio Morales and pay him his $3,000,000 this season that he would be owed if he was placed on the active roster.

That’s just what is going to happen.

The team announced today that not only would they no longer be running with a 24-man roster, which they were doing to stay under the cap (which they weren’t under), but one of the open spots would be assigned to Morales who simply won’t go away.

He didn’t have an at bat in the minors, because that season hadn't begun yet, but one would have to assume that based on his $3,000,000 salary this year, he is going to get additional at bats in the Brewster. This will without a doubt continue to lower his OPS+ and potentially his career WAR as the 40-year-old continues to work in reverse. This would be the 8th season in a row that Morales posted an OPS+ and wRC+ under the league average.

Don’t be shocked if the next article you see containing Morales informs the public that he has signed a 10-year extension because, yes, the front office is either stupid or Morales holds the worst bit of information on the team in history.

That’s an excellent point. The way this season is going I might just instruct pitchers to pipe fastballs to Morales so we can make a few bucks.
