Omaha packaged prospects Brian Flint and Jimmy Decker and sent them out the door with longtime rotation member Jorge Hernandez. Both Flint and Decker were in the team's top 10 prospects and both ranked in the top 400 overall in the BBA.
Hernandez, who has had a rough past 365 days, hasn't experienced a rating decrease in the eyes of scouts but certainly hasn't been the same guy he was during the past 6 years. Hernandez was owed a whopping $52 million guaranteed over the next 4 years, but has an opt-out after next season.
Brian Flint looks like a great bat at just 18 years old, especially against right-handed pitching. He could likely hang in the BBA right now at the plate, but long term is not going to play in the field. Jimmy Decker is a 17-year-old pitcher who has a long ways to develop still before considering any impact in the BBA.
"You hate to lose any sort of prospects, regardless of who they are or what their potential was in the eyes of scouts." Said GM Justin Niles. "Sure, pitching is an item right now many have at the BBA level, but Decker is a few years away and nobody knows what the landscape will look like then. Brian is an excellent bat and was truly incredible for his age. We wish these two the best of luck in their future BBA careers." Said Niles.
"A special goodbye for Hernandez. Despite us not being his only Brewster team in his career, he certainly has felt like a lifelong member of our organization. We had a bit of a mutual agreement regarding attempting to find him opportunities to start in a rotation, and while we couldn't provide that for him, we are thrilled that he might get a chance elsewhere. Hernandez gave us 6 years and almost 1,500 innings of work that will forever show his impact." Said Niles.
