In a ceremony today, the Omaha Cyclones have announced that they are renaming “Hawks field” to “Emilio Morales Field” effective immediately.
“Obviously, when we rebranded many years ago from the Hawks to the Cyclones, we kept the “Hawks field” name with many questioning what we were thinking and why we didn’t rename it at that point. This has been planned for many years, and league rules state that a stadium name may only change once every 10 years. With that in mind, we waited to rename our extraordinary ballpark because we’re waiting for this moment.” Said Omaha GM Justin Niles. “Obviously, we are not sure of what Emilio’s plans are as far as his playing career. Regardless, someone doesn’t have to be retired in order to achieve fame and be appreciated. We appreciate everything that Emilio has done for us, and there is no better way for us to show that than by naming the field that we call home after him.”
“In addition to naming the ballpark after him, we also plan to open an ice cream shop in left field, where many of his career home runs reached their final destination. The restaurant will be named “Splits” after Emilio, who was called this by many of his closest teammates. Banana Splits will be a hot commodity and seen throughout the ballpark come April.” Said Niles.
Emilio Morales is set to hit the open market for the first time in his storied career. A career he has spent entirely in Omaha, where he became the all time leader in home runs for the Brewster Baseball Association.
