State of The Union Address from Omaha GM Justin Niles(49.10)

Post by niles08 » Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:13 am

Another season has come and gone for our wonderful organization, city, and most importantly our fans. We’ve had a roller coaster of a season, from being 36-44 at the end of June, to catching fire in August, going 19-9, and even a subpar 12-12 September so far. While this team hasn’t quite hit expectations that we all had coming in, it wasn’t a lost season.

We still experienced growth as a team. We’re clearly a better team than when this season began. That is thanks to experience.

We still experienced Emilio Morales hitting double-digit home runs at age 39, widening the gap between him and the next closest career home run hitter in Brewster history.

Speaking of the hot corner, We still experienced the first full season of future star Malik Bin Mazin, who has huge shoes to fill at that position and did so with a .301/.336/.439 triple slash while spending time at first and third base during the season.

On the mound, we still experienced a fantastic season from Timo Dooley, who finished with a 3.27 ERA. Francisco Hernandez proved himself to be every bit of what we hoped he would be finishing with an ERA of 1.75 and 29 saves in 31 opportunities. Our bullpen as a unit finished with the #1 ERA in the Frick, with an excellent 2.35 ERA on the year.

It’s obviously disappointing knowing that we won’t be participating In post-season play this year, for the first time in 6 seasons, and just the third time since 2039. However, I can’t state how proud of this team our front office and ownership is. This team is currently set to be the 8th team in the past 10 years for this franchise that finishes at or above .500.

As an organization, we also believe we are well positioned for next season. We have just a few potential departures due to free agency, with the main core returning next season. Most importantly, we made some moves at the deadline to help us get under the salary cap for next season, while getting a return on investment for players that would potentially be moving on. Ramon Pagan is a great example of that as he has a 166 OPS+ since we have acquired him, and is going to help us next season in the outfield along with the continued development of Manuel Torres & Eric Wagner who both got some major league experience this season.

We have some additional players coming up to be excited about, including another outfielder with excellent power in Amid Kasim and also a potential front of the line starter in Takashi Nakamura. It’s very possible that both make their presence felt in Omaha at some point in the next year.

Once again, thank you, Cyclone nation for your support this season, and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to our ball field for opening day 2050.

Dooley finished nicely. He had a rough start.

I knew Fransisco Hernandez would be good. Another one of my conversion projects.
