1210 and counting for "Speed"..

Post by JohnC » Wed Jan 02, 2013 3:46 pm

Mobile:

So the count has reached 1,210 professional AB's for Weston 'Speed' Fitzpatrick. With more and more emphasis being placed on 'Speed' by his supporters.

In case you are not aware, Fitzpatrick has not hit a professional home run in his career. A check on his bio page will list his morale as: Good. One has to wonder if that is really the case. While power is certainly not his game, he does project to be a 10-12 HR guy, yet the count continues. A glance through the Mobile Biscuit Whompers rosters will see such lightweights as IF Hector Bautista with a dinger on the season so far. All is not lost for Fitzpatrick as he is currently hitting .332 with 29 doubles, not to mention he is the 22nd ranked prospect in the MBWBA. How long can this possibly go on?

A 1st round pick by Las Vegas in 2005, he was traded to Montreal in 2007 in a deal for Art 'Gramps' Messer. He is due to be promoted to AAA before the season ends, however with Mobile currently sitting in 1st place that promotion may have to wait until after the AA playoffs end.

So the count will continue for Fitzpatrick. Perhaps that elusive 1st home run will come this week, perhaps it won't come at all this season. Either way, Blazers management are happy with the development of their young prospect.

Stay tuned....

I guess he only has 4 tools in his toolbox... errr... with that defense you might want to say 3 tools in the box.

His .126 ISO is borderline miraculous considering, haha.

If his discipline was better he would be a good leadoff hitter. The ability to hit both LH and RH almost equally combined with that speed... that is something the Blazers haven't had since I took over.
