61.17 Montreal Swaps RHP Nagaswamy for 1B Wanberg

The Blazers traded for 27-year-old Long Beach first baseman Per-Olaf Wanberg, a switch hitter who has not yet risen above AA. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2055 amateur draft by New Orleans, he was signed to a minor league deal by Long Beach in 2058. Wanberg projects with a plus-plus eye and plus power. This season he has hit .276/.325/.520 (110 OPS+).

Montreal signed right-handed pitcher Seth Nagaswamy in 2052 out of India. Now 25, Nagaswamy has had two cups of coffee with the big league club, in 2059 and 2060. Neither left a lasting impression. In AAA New Jersey this season, he has made 30 appearances, going 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA (137 ERA+). Prior to this season, he worked as a starter; he has the ability to pitch deep in to games. Nagaswamy has a fine four-pitch repertoire with four plus-plus pitches but is unable to locate them with any consistency. Scouts condemn his work ethic, suggesting that this is the reason that he has not developed the way that they envisioned.
