Pedro Huerta
Coming off two seasons in which he posted a 140ish OPS+, the Blazers were expecting great things from him. Instead, they got a .227 batting average, a .260 on-base percentage, and negative WAR. To make things worse, instead of owning his performance and working to improve, Huerta whined when he was moved out of the clean-up spot in the lineup. It's rumored that he has demanded a trade, as though anyone would want to trade for his current performance relative to his contract.
Montreal management called his bluff today, putting him on irrevocable waivers after he refused demotion to AAA New Jersey where it was hoped that he could work on his swing away from the bright lights of Montreal. Privately, team officials are concerned that the media scrutiny in a large market like Montreal might be too much for Huerta to handle.
