61.21 Rookie Shines in Big League Debut

Post by Bob Breum » Sun Dec 15, 2024 1:53 am

In this year’s amateur draft, Montreal selected third baseman Denes 'Shadow' Terovolas with their first pick (18th overall). A 21-year-old college junior from Greece, Terovolas possessed advanced skills for his age. To no one’s surprise, he flew through the system, hitting .380 in AA and .316/.341/.500 in AAA.

Looking for help for their stretch run, the Blazers called him up in late June as a bench bat. By mid-July, he won a full-time job, replacing last year’s Rookie of the Year Tom Allen at third base. Terovolas is hitting .333/.366/.543 (152 OPS+) in 112 plate appearances so far, with seven doubles and five home runs.

Terovolas is a below average defender at the hot corner. The team is hoping that Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove winner Allen can bounce back next season, with plans to deploy Terovolas as their full-time designated hitter.

I think you’ve got something there. 7 contact and 7 power makes a great hitter.
