61.14 The Return of Don Moore

Post by Bob Breum » Sun Nov 17, 2024 10:04 pm

Montreal announced the signing of free agent outfielder Don Moore. This will be Moore's second stint with the team, having arrived in trade in mid-2059. He was very popular with Montreal fans in 2059 and it is expected that they will be excited for his return. The 31-year-old Moore is a 6'5" outfielder who is expected to play designated hitter against right-handed pitching, as he did in 2059. That season with Montreal, he hit .288/.348/.542 (132 OPS+), with 26 doubles and 14 home runs. He stole 30 bases in 33 attempts. Last season with Brooklyn, he hit .294/.356/.522 (133 OPS+) with 32 doubles, 25 home runs, and 41 stolen bases.

"I am very pleased to be returning to Montreal. I love both the clubhouse atmosphere here and the city. When my agent told me that the Blazers had inquired about my services, I told him to make it happen. I like the mix of youth and experience here. Some of these kids are veterans in their own right. The coaching staff is great. Ownership strives to put a winning team on the field. The fans have been good to me. I am glad to be back. I hope that I can contribute and meet the club's expectations. I will certainly work very hard to do so."

The Blazers have been working the phones in an effort to build a playoff contender this season. In addition to Moore, they have recently added left-handed shortstop Reynaldo Serrano and right-handed outfielder Ziya Turkes in a trade with Vancouver.

I used to have base stealing turned down mayyybe a couple notches but I’ll never understand why this guy didn’t steal any bases for me.

Moore was asking for too much money, and I decided to give allocate my resources to defense and pitching. Hope he does a job for you guys.

Thanks. That's the same reason we didn't sign him for 2060. He wanted $10+ million.
