59.24 Blazers Induct Lineu Aldo into Team Hall of Fame

Post by Bob Breum » Thu Jul 11, 2024 7:37 pm

Everybody was all smiles today in Montreal today as the Blazers welcomed home Lineu Aldo.

Bob Breum stepped to the podium. “It was 2037 when the club traded for a tall, skinny 17-year-old kid. It was only four years later when he burst onto the scene with such a huge Rookie of the Year performance that he almost won the Sawyer Silk award, as well. That season he hit .358, had 229 hits, 37 home runs, and stole 38 bases. A 35/35 season, a rare feat!

“It was no fluke. He played over 18 seasons for us, and they were all productive seasons. He led the league in doubles in 2044 with 53. He led the league in triples three times. He led the league in stolen bases twice. Thirteen of those eighteen years were 20/20 seasons. He hit 429 home runs and stole 658 bases for us.

“He not only hit. He was a strong defender all those years, as well. He won three Gold Gloves as a first baseman and he was an excellent second baseman, too. He gave our managers lots of flexibility. He could play two positions at a very high level and he could hit almost anywhere in the batting order.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce today that we are inducting Lineu Aldo in the Montreal Blazers Hall of Fame. He certainly belongs among the great players of our organization.”

Shame that he didn't get a chance to get #3,000 with the Blazers
