2059.26: Bears' Cubs - Corner Infield Prospects

9/8/2059

In this edition of the 2059 Bears’ Cubs series I’ll focus on players who profile as corner infielders. There are a lot of interesting looking teenagers who need to fill out. José Pérez has graduated off the list but our top draft pick from 2059 takes his place.

Reminder on the scale:
A: star player just by developing to their potential
B: BBA regular just by developing to their potential or star potential but has some risk factors
C: potential is enough to make it to the BBA but beyond that uncertain
D: needs some bumps to have a BBA future or a lot of uncertainty around their potential

A
None

B
B Harith bin Haroun
B- Jorge Reyes

C
C Pedro Carmona

D
D+ Awdia Iman
D+ Jesús Reyes
D Cristóbal Cruz

Honorable Mention
Dan Plank
Justin Ranier
Calvino Vanni
Tony Tardiff
Sayyid Hilal

Harith bin Haroun is my top prospect and the #58 prospect in the BBA. He showed some improvement from last year by getting his OPS over .600 and nearly playing replacement-level in Rookie league. He’ll need to start developing over the next couple of years or his bubble will burst but his 40 home run power potential and patient eye still give him a high ceiling. Jorge Reyes was our top draft pick this year. He’s kind of a tweener defensively and we’ve settled on third base as his final home. He had a .362 OBP as a teenager in SA but didn’t show much power.

Pedro Carmona is a sneaky prospect. He’s fully developed at a young age which always makes it tricky to draw conclusions from his minor league production but I’d rather have my guys putting up a .900+ OPS than not. He’ll strike out a lot but when he makes contact he barrels the ball and has 30 home run power potential.

Iman and Reyes both have some nice tools but feel incomplete as ball players—they each need a bump to become BBA contributors. It’s also worrisome they haven’t started producing as they enter their 20s. Production dropped off this year for Cristobal Cruz in what I suspect will be the final time he makes a prospect list. He still has options left after this season but I’ve got to decide whether I want to commit a 40-man roster spot to him all offseason. It’s that darn 7 power potential and ability to eat up lefties as a right-handed hitter that keeps me around.
