NB I will fix links
A pleasantly surprising first week for Havana. The team looks a little different this year, with some older players falling off last year in free agency, and a number of callups his year to fill the holes. CF Gil, C Gamboa and SS Wareham need to bring things up to speed quickly. Over the course of the week, offense lacked and it was only some good pitching that kept things in the positive.
Series against Jacksonville : 5-0
Pitching:
A fantastic opening day with Ignacio Rodriguez striking out 12 in seven innings with no walks. Villalobas also had a strong game three of the series.
Batting:
Reece Wareham had a great start to the season in a strong series against Jacksonville. He is still very raw, but with. O other SS candidates, we opted to see how he can do in Havana. In the 5 game series, he had seven hits and two homeruns.
Series against Atlantic City : 1-3
Pitching:
Even though the Sugar Kings went 0-4, pitching was decent in the first two games. Rodriguez kept things close with another good strikeout outing. Villalobas imploded in game three, however.
Batting:
Dave Wilfer provided offense that was lacking elsewhere. Unlike the Jacksonville series, Havana couldn't get enough runs. Wareham's strong start fizzled in this series and we hope to see some more production over the season.
Series against Carolina : 0-1 (Game 1)
Pitching:
Paul Farrell had a meh game. Allowed a ton of hits, but somehow the game remained relatively close.
Batting:
No real standouts. Wilfer continues to be consistent, and catcher Gamboa, who replaces Saunders, had a good week.
