2060-17 Expiring and Options 2061
1. 3B Alejandro Cordova (40)
2060 Salary: $2,000,000
Someone who I accidentally signed last year actually turned out to be a pretty good addition to the team. Cordova started the year as our starting third basemen and had solid numbers, especially with his walks and steals. However mid-way through the year his defensive ratings began to tank to where he was basically unplayable at third. With Vance Cooper set to be starting at third next season and with Cordova going to be 41 before the season starts I don’t see a reason to keep him around.
Verdict: Let walk into FA
2. RP Adrian Fox (30)
2060 Salary: $2,020,000
Acquired from Bikini at the deadline, Fox pitched only 5 games during our playoff push but did solid enough. He’s already made it clear that he wants to test FA but when I looked at his potential asking price of checks notes
$10,000,000!?
Good luck with that buddy
Verdict: Goodbye
3. SP Jim Achbar
2060 Salary: $1,850,000
Was basically brought in from waivers as in innings eater last year during our season from hell. Spent the entirety of 2060 in AAA. If he’s willing to accept a minor league deal I wouldn’t mind bringing him back but anything more wont happen.
Verdict: Offer a minor league contract
4. RP Ross Brown (34)
2060 Salary: $5,000,000
2061 Team Option Salary: $6,000,000
Brown has been one of our more consistent relievers through my time here. Even though I traded him away last year to Nashville, I brought him back this year because of his skills. He had another solid year but it now begs the question if we should exercise this $1 million raise next year or use that money elsewhere. Jury’s still out for me on this one.
Verdict: Keep thinking about it
5. SP Sam Fisher (33)
2060 Salary: $4,000,000
2061 Team Option Salary: $3,000,000
Fisher has just come off a great 3+ WAR season and has been a great Mountie his whole career. You would think this would be an easy accept but there’s one slight snag. Fisher has a $7 million player option for 2062 if I accept, which wouldn’t be so bad if the cap wasn’t set to go down by $10 million at that time. How long does he have this in the tank, will he still be able to do this for $7 million at the age of 35?
Verdict: Keep thinking about it
6. SP Antonio Baldez
2060 Salary: $6,600,000
2061 Team Option Salary: $6,600,000
Baldez has done an excellent job since coming to the Mounties for the second time of his career, going 4-4 with an ERA of 3 with the Mounties and having one of the best overall seasons of his career. I think he’s easily worth the cap hit next year, at worst if he regresses abit he expires anyways, or I could trade him.
Verdict: Accept the Option.

I don't recall what he was asking for before he shut down all talks with us. It was what I considered to be a lot, but not $10M.Knucklehead254 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 3:48 pm2. RP Adrian Fox (30)

I picture Dr Evil being Adrian Fox's agent.

Re: 2060-17 Expiring and Options 2061
Fox has always been like that. I drafted him in Boise, twice in fact, because he asked for too much money the first year, so I sent him back to college and drafted him again the next year, to teach him a lesson. Apparently it didn't take.
I always wonder why players like him ask for as much as they do, and while yes he has high greed, another factor might be that he thinks he's a starter, therefore he's asking for starter money. Even though he's never started once in the BBA, that 8 stamina is still there, and he wants to get paid for it.

Fox ended up getting 6 million and is doing well as a reliever, though perhaps not 6 million well.
