NEW ERA IN VANCOUVER, FORMER SHARK BOSS BECOMES NEW GM
October 30, 2054
There was a calmness that radiated from Aaron Wharram, who today was announced as the new GM of the Vancouver Mounties. The 24 year old Canadian will be taking over a team desperate for a chance at a championship, as the team has not won a title since 2000.
"I'm excited to be a part of an ever growing organization," says Wharram, "especially happy to be back here in Canada as well."
The former Sydney GM lead the team in a tight playoff race when he joined the Sharks back in August, but the team fell just short of the GBC Playoffs. He finished his brief tenure with a 22-22 record, leading some fans to wonder if he is the right man for the job. Some fans have called into question his inexperience, as well as a silent trade deadline when his former team desperately needed bullpen help. Still Wharram seems undeterred by those doubting him.
"I understand I have to earn the trust and backing of the fans, I just hope they understand that I will do everything in my power to make this franchise one of the best in the BBA."
The Mounties finished this season with a 79-83 record, which is seen as significant improvement from the year before when they finished 66-96. With stars like LF Andrew Wright and SP Phil Cole set to return and lead the way, those wonder who else will take the next big step in leading Vancouver back to the playoffs. A roster filled with reliable but aging veterans, mixed with some young budding prospects, starts as a solid foundation. The team this season however was statistically one of the worst batting teams in the league, finishing near the bottom in every batting stat. When asked about what he has planned for the upcoming offseason, he remained cautious.
"We'll be looking in free agency this year to see if we can find any potential upgrades to this offense, but I have no plans at the moment to completely overhaul the roster either." Says Wharram.
The GM ended his introductory press conference with a thank you to his former team, and that he is excited to be back in his home country and ready to lead the charge of the Vancouver Mounties.
