Well what do you know, another trade where I acquire a struggling player in the hopes he'll turn it around here. And I mean hey it has worked before,
Tony Frost back in 2055 looked to be on his way out the league until he revitalized his career here in Vancouver, but gosh imagine the reaction if that trade was made today

. Or how about when we traded for then 5 ERAer
Gamal bin Badr also in 2055 from Las Vegas? He ended up become a core contributor on the Mounties for a few years (of course we gave up then youngster Bret Harrel, and he's been doing pretty well for himself.) We also dealt for struggling Yellow Springs pitcher
Reese Newsome in 2056, who broke out to become an All-Star in 2058 and lead the entire BBA in K's with 224. But of course it's easy to look at the success and not the times it didn't work. Like when traded for Yellow Springs (again?) pitcher
Manuel Garcia, who looked great for three games before imploding. Or when I traded for
Stephen Clulow Jr from Brooklyn, who looked great for 10 starts in 2060 before coming no where close since before being dealt in a package for
Dirk Bessi back. Point is, sometimes it pays off, other times not so much.
So with my most recent trade, we got another struggling Yellow Springs pitcher (I'm sensing a theme here) in
Alfredo Anaya, for
Marcus Estabrook and whoever I drafted in the 20th round the recent draft. Anaya has had a rough time in the majors despite having roughly 10 stuff and 7 control. The problem is he gives up a lot of homers. In just 8 innings in relief this year, he's given up 5 so ya know, not great. Sounds exactly like earlier mention
Reese Newsome, and that's pretty much my mindset. If he gives up a homerun a start, it'll probably only be one run given up. So will it pay off like Newsome? Obviously too early to tell but I think my park should help limit the amount of homeruns he gives up. With us currently sitting on a 54-49 tied for the final wildcard spot with our rival San Fernando Bears, I'm hoping this move can help us achieve our first playoff birth since 2058. That and the offense can snap out of their recent slump.
