Mounties continue to play .500 ball
Take a quick look at the Vancouver Mounties' record over the last two weeks and you'll see a team that is ever so slightly out performing their overall record, as they went 6-6. A deeper look, however, will show you one of the more unusual ways to play at .500. The Mounties have alternated sweeping their opponent and getting swept by their opponent, in each of the last four series.
First up was a trip to division rival, San Fernando, where the Mounties absolutely dominated the Bears on both sides. The bats put up 30 runs on 47 hits across the three game set, while on the mound, the Mounties received stellar starts from Marcus Olivares (6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER) and Patrick Hawkins (8.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER) in games two and three, respectively.
The Mounties would then begin three straight series against the Heartland Division. That started with a trip to Louisville where they dropped a heartbreaker, 5-4 in 12 innings, in the first game. (Another, more random oddity of this stretch is that Mahad Einan saw his second start in 4 days in game one here. He went 4.2, giving up 3 runs; the best pitching performance of the series.) The wheels then fell off in games two and three when the Rodriguez brothers (not actually brothers) gave up 5 runs each in their respective starts.
The switch then flipped back on when the Mounties returned home to face Madison. Each starter (Barlow, Cole, and Einan) went at least 6 innings and only gave up one run. Meanwhile, Andrew Wright tormented the Wolves' pitching staff as he hit .417 with a homer and two doubles.
Someone must have forgot to pay the electric though because the power went back out when Nashville came to town. The Rodriguez brothers struck again with some poor outings while the offense struggled to produce in two of the three games.
Next up, the Mounties will try to buck the trend against two division foes, although the schedule is set up for more of the same. First up will be fifth place Portland before second place Sacramento comes to town.
